Social Distancing Learning Session Day 2

Yesterday we spoke about butterflies and how some of them use their long tongues to eat nectar. Today we are going to look at the flowers that make the nectar.
Remember to ask your kids about what they learned yesterday regarding butterflies. This will encourage reflection and exercise their memories.
Here is a flower that can be printed and coloured.

While your child is colouring, chat with them about flowers. Here are some ideas you can use.

“What colour will you colour the petals/leaves/stem/seeds?”

“Where are its roots?”

“Why are flower’s colourful?”   (To attract birds and insects)

“What is Nectar?”    ( Nectar is something sweet that the plant makes.)

“How does Nectar help the plant?”    ( It attract birds and insects.)

“What is pollen?”   (A small powder that plants use to make seeds)

“How do butterflies help the plant?”   (Butterflies, birds and other insects carry pollen from one flower to other flowers. This helps make seeds.)

“What are seeds for?”  (Seeds grow into new plants; to perpetuate the species)

“What do you think nectar tastes like?”

“Would you eat a flower?”

“What are flowers good for?”       (They help makes plants which give us food and oxygen. They are nice to look at. They smell nice. They feed animals.)
